Our Policies
We welcome you to the 2009-2010 season at PURE Dance Music Drama Inc. We have created this set of policies to give our parents, students and staff a clear understanding of our mutual expectations, commitments, and responsibilities.
Code of Conduct
The Code of Conduct generally outlines expected attitudes and behaviours in all classes.
The Code of Conduct applies to all students.
Proper classroom etiquette will be taught in each class, but the Code of Conduct should extend beyond the classroom and into the hallways and the rest of the studio as well.
Some of these policies include:
- Arrive to class on time, focused, and prepared to learn,
- Be gracious and polite when instructions and corrections are given,
- Always stand unless asked to sit,
- Listen when others are speaking, and do not speak unless permission is given,
- Mark the exercises when the teacher is demonstrating,
- Respect others; classmates, peers and teachers alike,
- Respect the facility by keeping it clean,
- Adhere to the Dress Code Policy,
- No gum, food, or drinks other than water, permitted in any classroom,
- When practical, go to the bathroom before or between classes,
- Unavoidable absences should be communicated 24 hours in advance when possible,
- Always thank your teacher at the end of class.
Class Size Policy
The Class Size Policy outlines the requrirements for class minimum and maximum enrolment.
The Class Size Policy applies to all PURE students.
Each class has a maximum capacity that is determined by the student ages, by the discipline, the specific skill being taught, and student safety. We do not accept students above our stated capacities for these reasons. When classes fill to capacity students wanting to enrol in that class are placed on a wait list. Where it is practical new sections are opened for the wait listed students.
Similarly, every class at PURE has a minimum enrolment requirement of six students. A class with five or fewer students during the Full Term Season will be closed on or before the first week of November, and during the Summer Session will be closed on or before the second week of July. We will work with you to move affected students to a suitable alternate class/day/time as available. If you are affected by a class closure you will be personally notified as early as possible.
Dress Code Policy
The Dress Code Policy outlines class-specific expectations of student appearance and attire.
The Dress Code Policy applies to all PURE students.
The Dress Code Policy states that every class has prescribed appearance and attire expectations. In all classes, jewelry is not to be worn, and nothing is to be added to the dress codes, such as accessories. The specifics of the dress codes for each class can be found below, and also with each class description.
In dance, a dress code ensures that a teacher will be able to see a dancer’s alignment and positioning so corrections can be made and good habits instilled. Form-fitting dancewear is a requirement in all classes where techinique is important to learning. Strict dress codes, as in Ballet, are a world-wide tradition in which we are taking part, but it also helps teach students discipline and focus. Dancers feel like dancers when they dress the part, and dress codes minimize distractions for teachers and students alike, prevent select dancers from standing out, and help give classes a unified look. If a student comes to class and is not adhering to the specific dress code, he/she will be sent home with a friendly reminder to review dress code policies.
In music and drama, a dress code, that is much less prescriptive than in dance, is established to ensure that all students are able to learn and grow with full free movement of their bodies. Restrictive clothing can prevent proper breathing, reduce oxygen intake, and restrict self-expression. For some exercises and activities it is important that an instructor can observe posture, technique, or position so excessively baggy or layered clothing is to be avoided. If a student comes to class and is not adhering to the specific dress code, he/she will be sent home with a friendly reminder to review dress code policies.
Photography and Video Policy
The Photography and Video Policy outlines the appropriate use of photo and video recording equipment.
The Photography and Video Policy applies to all PURE students, their families and all staff.
PURE has a “no photo” and “no video” policy, which applies to all classes at PURE and to all PURE shows. There are a number of reasons that this is in place, but the most important is to protect the privacy of our students and staff. In addition to this, the choreography, costumes, scripts, music and lighting are all subject to and protected by copyright, and theatre policy often prohibits photography.
It is PURE's responsibility to enforce a policy that will protect our students and staff, and will respect copyright laws. Please help us by leaving your camera or video recorder at home when you come to watch a PURE class or a PURE production. Photography and video recording are not permitted without the express written permission of PURE management.
At our shows, we will often work with one professional photographer and one professional videographer to make photos and videos available to our PURE family that comply with both privacy and copyright requirements.
We appreciate your help in making this policy an easy one to enforce!
Peanut Policy
The Peanut Policy outlines what students and families can expect with respect to peanuts and peanut ingredients at our facility.
The Peanut Policy applies to all students, their families and all staff.
The Peanut Policy states that we are NOT a peanut free facility but encourage all students, families and staff to leave peanuts and peanut products at home.
Though we would like to strive to be a peanut free facility, there is no way for us to consistently and properly enforce or monitor whether food has peanut ingredients. We continue to find remnants of snacks and wrappers that most certainly have peanut ingredients in them.
We encourage all students, their families, and our staff to:
- leave peanuts and food with peanut ingredients at home,
- be aware that PURE is not a peanut free facility,
- inform the desk staff and your instructor(s) of any student that is allergic to peanuts and peanut ingredients.
